Ice Age Trail Grandfather Falls Segment

Grandfather Falls Hydroelectric Plant

Experience the wonder of Ice Age Trail as you hike along the Wisconsin River, following the same path traders used to portage their canoes around Grandfather Falls. Unique rock formations pepper the landscape, shaped by a series of small cascades that make up the falls.

If you prefer a longer hike on natural paths, consider starting your adventure in New Wood Park and hiking a mile north to the Hydroelectric Plant before continuing on to the cascades.  For a shorter hike, you can park directly at the plant without missing the beauty of the falls.

Your adventure doesn’t have to end here though.  Camp New Wood has 7 primitive campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, along with boat landings and a park with playground equipment perfect for families.

Please note that this trail is rocky with some tree roots crossing the path, so take extra care while hiking.
