Informal Probate

Informal Probate proceedings are overseen by the Register in Probate and do not require the continuous supervision of a judge.  They generally do not require formal court hearings and are often times done without the assistance of an attorney.

Informal Probate proceedings are governed by Section 865 of the Wisconsin Statutes.

Below you will find a Personal Representative's Guide to Informal Probate to aide you in commencing an Informal Probate Action.  While the guide contains a lot of helpful information, you should still confer with an attorney experienced in probate law if you have any questions regarding the probate process.

All of the forms referenced in the Personal Representative's Guide to Informal Probate can be found on the Wisconsin Court System website.
