Mental Commitments

An individual may be placed involuntarily under a court order of commitment if they are found to be mentally ill, alcohol dependent, or drug dependent.

Often times when placed under such an order, an individual's ability to possess a firearm is prohibited.

Any person subject to an involuntary commitment proceeding is eligible for representation by an attorney appointed by the State Public Defender.

All Mental Commitment case files and proceedings are closed to the public.

If you are the subject of a mental commitment proceeding and you have specific questions about your case you should contact the Register in Probate at 715-536-0342.

Currently, Lincoln County contracts with Marathon County Corporation Counsel for prosecution of all involuntary commitment proceedings.  Find out more about the Involuntary Commitment process by clicking on the following link:  Involuntary Commitment Court Process (Including 3-Party Commitments)
