Protective Placement

Protective Placement is often times necessary in conjunction with a guardianship when an individual is in need of physical care and custody in a facility such as a nursing home or group home.

Protective Placement cannot be ordered without a guardianship.

Protective Placements are recommended, monitored, and evaluated by an Adult-at-risk-Agency.  The Lincoln County Board of Supervisors has appointed North Central Health Care Adult Protective Services as the Adult-at-risk-Agency for Lincoln County.

All protective placements are reviewed on at least an annual basis.  This process is often referred to as a WATTS Review.  The purpose of the review is to ensure that the individual subject to the protective placement is placed in the least restrictive setting and receiving appropriate services .

The forms needed to commence a protective placement action can be found on the Wisconsin Court System website and are outlined in the Protective Placement Guideline below.
