POWTS Maintenance

Septic Tank Entrance

All private sewage systems in Lincoln County must be inspected, and/or serviced on a three (3) year basis to maintain compliance with State Administrative Code and County Codes. This promotes the proper operation of the system, and helps identify any possible issues with the existing system.

  • Private sewage system owners are responsible for maintaining their system, and filing the maintenance information with Lincoln County. Private sewage service providers are able to submit the maintenance report for their customers over the internet. Make sure you discuss this with them at the time of scheduling.  It may be beneficial to you to provide the notice (postcard) you received to them.  Private sewage service providers typically only report service after receiving payment.  If your report has not been submitted, please check with the provider to ensure they have received your payment.
  • Most septic systems require service every three years. Certain types of septic systems and holding tanks need service on a more frequent basis to keep filters clean or ensure mechanical systems are operating correctly. If you have questions, check with your service provider or contact our office.
  • If you are experiencing problems with your system, your system may be malfunctioning. Work with a professional to determine how to fix the problem, or contact our office with any questions you may have.
